Qualified women instructors help GUTS! participants increase their self-confidence, hone individual strengths, and cultivate an appreciation for the natural world in an environment free from societal pressures. These week-long trips incorporate outdoor skills like backpacking, canoeing, and biking while developing girls’ leadership skills in an environment that tests their inner strengths.

GUTS! 2019 Summer Calendar

June 15-19
Youth Leadership Training Trip (ages 16-19)
For GUTS! teens ready to take their leadership to the next level. After completion of the training, girls will be eligible to volunteer on other GUTS! trips.

The training will include the basics of the GUTS! empowerment model, group facilitation, and leadership styles. We will also cover backcountry leadership skills, including safety, camp cooking, navigation, Leave No Trace, and the GUTS! Summer Adventures curriculum.

June 25-30 FULL
Wild Horse Island Adventure (ages 12-14)
FULL (complete application to be added to the wait list)
This trip is designed for experienced middle school girls who are ready for a fun and more rigorous adventure. Girls will explore nature on the beautiful Flathead Reservation and kayak in Flathead Lake. The last two nights of camp will be a backpacking trip to Three Lakes Peak!

July 8-12
Sapphire Adventure (ages 11-13) – (6 spots remain)
Welcome first-time GUTS! adventurers! Girls will get their hands dirty and camp on an organic farm, learn wilderness skills, and take in the Sapphire mountains on a mellow three-day, two-night backpacking trip.

July 22-27
Flathead Reservation Adventure (ages 14-17) – (2 spots remain)
For new and returning GUTS! teens, this trip will explore the beautiful Flathead Reservation. While camped at a lake at the base of the Mission Mountains, we will contemplate our individual and collective strengths, and then put those to work at a local community garden. This trip will end in a wondrous three-night backpacking expedition.

August 5-9
Girls on Wheels Bike Camp (ages 9-11) – (3 spots remain)
Girls on Wheels participants will gain basic bike maintenance skills while navigating Missoula! The group will complete fun service projects and spend the afternoons dancing, exploring nature, hula-hooping, swimming, and discovering all that Missoula has to offer! This day camp will run from 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Mon-Wed, with an overnight camp Thursday night! Trip will conclude at noon on Friday.

(All activities are subject to change due to weather conditions, permits, and other unforeseen challenges.)

Trips have limited space, wait list available! Scholarships are available for families in need.

Summer Adventure Application

Apply online for a GUTS! Summer Adventure Camp (both parent and camper/youth leader will need to answer questions).

You can also pick up a paper application at the YWCA (1130 W. Broadway).

 

*A deposit of half of your total contribution is due with the application. The second payment is due by Monday, June 3, 2019.

Scholarships

GUTS! strives to ensure that every girl who wants to attend a GUTS! Summer Adventure Camp can participate, regardless of their ability to pay. Camper Information

Have you been accepted to one of our GUTS! Summer Adventures? Please complete the orientation packet below if you will be attending the Youth Leadership trip or any other overnight trip; please complete the Bike Camp orientation packet only if you are attending Girls on Wheels Bike Camp, August 5-9.  An orientation packet will also be emailed to you once your registrations is submitted.

Meet the Staff

Rohanna (Roe) Erin (Wilderness First Responder Certified)Roe

Roe grew up in the back of her family bike store in Western Pennsylvania. She’s adopted Missoula as her new home and is an avid hiker, biker and loves to play ice breakers and dance. Roe will be leading the Youth Leadership Trips, the  Sapphire Adventure, and the Girls on Wheels day camp. She will be on-call for the other trips.


Tess Sneeringer (Wilderness First Responder Certified)

Tess was born and raised in Washington, DC.  She has a background in outdoor education and started leading groups of students outside over 10 years ago.  She has experience in terrain ranging from New England forests to Alaskan tundra and can’t wait to add the Montana backcountry to the list!  She’ll be leading the Youth Leadership Trip, the Flathead Adventure, and Wild Horse Island and will be on-call for other trips.
