Together with YWCA USA and YWCAs across the country, YWCA Missoula is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all. The YWCA opens doors to opportunity and self-sufficiency for women and families facing poverty, violence and discrimination. With over 100 years of experience, the YWCA is the leading organization in Missoula for moving women and families out of crisis and empowering them to achieve lasting independence. The YWCA Missoula is a mighty force of roughly 50 paid staff, over 200 volunteers, members of the Jesuit Volunteer Corps, Senior Corps, AmeriCorps, and AmeriCorps VISTA, and practicum and intern students. We depend on the individuals in this force to carry out the YWCA mission. In return, we will build leadership from within and promote leadership skills on all levels of the organization.

History

In 2011, YWCA Missoula celebrated 100 years responding to the emerging issues facing women in the community. It is through this rich history filled with compassion and dedication to families in Missoula that we are able to continue our mission eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all people in our community.

YWCA Historical Highlights:

YWCA Missoula was founded on April 5, 1911, as an agency whose purpose was working with high school girls. In 1927, the YWCA began providing services to women traveling across country by train in search of work. Throughout the 1930s and 40s, the YWCA created an employment program for women, offered life-skills classes, counseling, financial aid and food donations. In 1977, the YWCA’s domestic violence shelter opened, with transitional housing following in 1988. Sexual assault services were added in 1997. The YWCA implemented a supervised visitation and exchange center a few years later. In 2004, the organization started its social marketing campaign to spark dialogue, reflection and transformation around racism. In 2007, GUTS! came on board, and in 2009, the YWCA took on Missoula’s only Emergency Housing program for homeless families.

YWCA Missoula is hiring a full-time Secret Seconds Clerk

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or HiSET Equivalency Diploma required.
• Must have dependable vehicle, current driver’s license and proof of auto insurance in compliance with Montana state law.
• Must pass a background check designed to protect the interests of YWCA donors and clients.
• Ability to maintain confidential information.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with a variety of individuals, including clients, donors, peers and supervisors.
• Good work habits, including punctuality and ability to organize and manage time and information.
• Ability to accept, act on and offer constructive criticism.

PARTIAL LIST OF DUTIES:
• Waits on customers, receives donations, and writes receipts for donations.
• Sorts, prices, and displays merchandise.
• Projects a positive image of the YWCA, using effective public relations skills.
• Exhibits friendliness toward and consideration of YWCA employees, volunteers, participants, customers and the general public.
• Adheres to YWCA policies and guidelines.

HOURS/DAYS: Full time. Will work varied week days, evenings and weekend hours, to be discussed at interview. This position will work weekends.

YWCA Missoula and EmpowerMT are hiring a joint full-time Racial Justice Engagement Specialist.

This is a full-time, benefited position shared between EmpowerMT and YWCA Missoula.

Hours: 40 hours/week

Wage: $15.00/hr plus benefits: 75% health, vision, and dental insurance, optional IRA matching program, paid annual leave, long term illness, and paid holidays.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

EmpowerMT:

  • Serve on and support the Missoula MLK Day Planning Committee
  • Co-chair the coalition Missoula’s IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity Alliance) for Racial Justice
  • Co-facilitate trainings with schools, organizations/businesses, and communities as needed and available
  • Attend EmpowerMT Advancing Leadership Institute
  • Provide programmatic documentation for reports, grants, and printed materials
  • Assist with program evaluation

YWCA:

  • Facilitate the Racial Justice Task Force and Racial Justice Advisory Council
  • Organize Stand Against Racism community event in April
  • Manage the racial justice-focused orientation/continued learning platform for new YWCA staff
  • Lead staff/volunteer/board member BIPOC monthly, out of office, support group/social
  • Strengthen connection and participation with YWCA USA racial justice efforts
  • Complete YWCA advocate training and GUTS! facilitator trainings
  • Provide programmatic documentation for reports, grants, and printed materials
  • Assist with program evaluation

EmpowerMT and YWCA Collaborative Responsibilities: 

Community Programming

  • Organize and co-facilitate BIPOC True Colors training
  • Organize and facilitate BIPOC youth group

Partnerships and Outreach

  • Develop and maintain key partnerships with BIPOC led organizations and groups (MUIHC, Western Native Voices, UM BSU, MT Racial Equity Project, etc.) and other groups committed to racial justice.
  • Work in partnership to promote the efforts of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women Movement.
  • Attend at least one national, regional, or state conference per year.

Education and Research

  • Assist staff in ensuring racial equity is considered for new and existing programs and policies by providing research, data, recommendations and support.
  • Research and support implementation of organizational best practices for diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Identify personal and professional development opportunities for the organization’s board, staff, and volunteers to advance racial justice knowledge base.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, & EXPECTATIONS 

  • Associate or Bachelor degree in social sciences, human services, criminal justice, or a related field; or equivalent experience
  • Foundational knowledge of social justice
  • Foundational knowledge of racial justice
  • Experience with group facilitation, working with youth, and planning events
  • Availability to work some evenings and weekends
  • Willingness to travel in and out of state
  • Ability to work independently with organizational skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with diverse constituents
