Qualified women instructors help GUTS! girls increase their self-confidence, hone individual strengths, and cultivate an appreciation for the natural world in an environment free from societal pressures. These week-long trips incorporate outdoor skills like backpacking, canoeing, and biking while developing girls’ leadership skills in an environment that tests their inner strengths.

GUTS! Summer Calendar

May 5-7 and June 13-15
Youth Leadership Training Trip (ages 16+)
For GUTS! teens ready to take their leadership to the next level. After completion of the trainings, girls will be eligible to volunteer other GUTS! trips.
Front-country training trip: at Woods Cabin, from the evening of Friday, May 5 through Sunday, May 7. The training will include the basics of the GUTS! empowerment model, group facilitation, and leadership styles.
Backcountry training trip: a 3-day backpacking trip, location TBD. This training will cover backcountry basics including safety, cooking, outdoor leadership, navigation, and our outdoor GUTS! curriculum!

June 26-July 1
Wild Horse Island and Flathead Reservation Adventure (ages 12-13)
This trip is designed for experienced middle school girls who are ready for a fun and more rigorous adventure. Girls will explore nature on the beautiful Flathead Reservation, as well as kayak in Flathead Lake, geocache their way around Wild Horse Island, and try out a two-night backpacking trip to Three Lakes Peak!

July 10-14
Sapphire Adventure (ages 11-13)

Welcome first-time GUTS! Overnight Adventurers! Girls will get their hands dirty on an organic farm, learn wilderness skills, and take in the Sapphire mountains on a mellow three-day, two-night backpacking trip.

July 24-28
Flathead Reservation Adventure (ages 14-17)
For new and returning GUTS! girls, this trip will explore the beautiful Flathead Reservation. We will connect with tribal experts, learn about the history of the place and the people who live there. We will complete a community service project then revel in a wondrous two night backpacking journey into the Missions.

August 7-11
Girls on Wheels Bike Adventure! (ages 9-11)
Girls on Wheels participants will gain basic bike maintenance skills while navigating Missoula! The group will complete fun service projects and spend the afternoons dancing, exploring nature, hula-hooping, swimming, and discovering all that Missoula has to offer! This day camp will run from 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Mon-Wed, with a possible overnight camp Thursday night! Trip will conclude at noon on Friday. Overnight location TBD.

All activities are subject to change due to weather conditions, permits, and other unforeseen challenges*

Trips have limited space! Application deadline is Friday, May 5th. Early registration encouraged to ensure a spot. Late applications accepted until camps fill. Scholarships are available for families in need.

GUTS! strives to ensure that every girl who wants to attend a GUTS! Summer Adventure Camp can participate, regardless of their ability to pay. Camper Information

Have you been accepted on one of our GUTS! Summer Adventures? If you are attending Bike Camp, you will need the Bike Camp packet. If you are on any of the other Summer Outdoor Adventure trips, you will need the Summer Outdoor Adventure packet. These packets will be available in late April!


Meet the Staff

Rohanna (Roe) Erin (Wilderness First Responder Certified)Roe

Roe grew up in the back of her family bike store in Western Pennsylvania. She’s adopted Missoula as her new home and is an avid hiker, biker and loves to play ice breakers and dance. Roe will be leading the Youth Leadership Trips, the  Sapphire Adventure, and the Girls on Wheels day camp. She will be on-call for the other trips.

Tabby Espinoza (Wilderness First Responder Certified)

Tabby was born and raised in Arlee, MT by a large family of talkative women and mostly reserved men. She grew up playing in the mountains, fields, and lakes of the beautiful Flathead Reservation. She loves hiking, camping, backpacking, kayaking, growing plants, and eating! She will be leading the Youth Leadership Trainings, Wild Horse Island Adventure, the Flathead Reservation Adventure, and on-call for other trips.


Emily Kaplan (Wilderness First Aid and CPR Certified) emily

Emily grew up in New York state, in a small town on the Hudson River.  Having lived so close to a huge city, but still nestled in the woods of the Hudson  valley, Emily developed a huge appreciation for   outdoor recreation and human diversity. Nowadays, Emily spends her time snowboarding, cooking, hanging out with friends, hiking, backpacking and laughing a lot! She will be leading all of the trips.
